Dear Friends,

Thank you for your interest in learning about my candidacy for Newton School Committee from Ward 6. I am excited to be running for this important, city-wide role in Newton's government. Please click here to read about my priorities.

Certainly, this is among the most challenging times the public schools have ever faced. Personally, I have been working at home since March, 2020 and have seen first-hand - through my experience as a parent of two Newton Public Schools students - the importance of keeping our kids in school. If elected to the School Committee, I will work hard to ensure that students can safely stay in school for the entirety of the 2021-2022 academic year.

With this goal as the backdrop to my candidacy, as a School Committee Member, I will also be focused on ensuring that we can emerge from the pandemic better and stronger - so that we keep our responsibility to Newton's children as one of the community's highest priorities.

At a high-level, my focus will be to strengthen the mission of public education in Newton, which is to be sure we always provide high quality education for all students. This is the true mission of public education in our country - any student can access a great education in their community.

I hope to bring a collaborative, positive and solution-focused approach to the School Committee. I would love to talk with you any time about my campaign. Please get in touch - call, text or email any time. I look forward to connecting with you soon.

As a parent, I am "all-in," volunteering with the schools, helping my two elementary-age kids with school while working at home during the pandemic, coaching sports and generally trying to have as much family fun as possible.

I am a successful leader because I prioritize listening - hearing ideas and concerns, and responding to them honestly. Here, I am facilitating a training for more than 600 people focused on good organizing practices.

I am a collaborative advocate for great causes and candidates. Here, my wife Dr. Kate Wissel and I are pictured with President Obama after I served on the Obama Re-Election Campaign New England Obama steering committee.
